The making of war criminals

by Anna
(Toronto)

A thought provoking article about the noted war criminal, Bosnian Serb general Ratko Mladic, asked an important question: is Mladic truly different from us? *

It is tempting to regard those crimes as aberrations, committed by men fundamentally unlike other humans. But to take that view would be to miss the point that war makes criminals - or collaborators - of us all.

This quote is from an excellent article by Oakland Ross, in The Toronto Star, 28 May, 2011, headlined:
Mladic may be the enemy, but the enemy also is us"

Great reading.
